Coffee Table Book Elevates The Art of Impersonation
"It's amazing what a man can accomplish when he's wearing the right dress."
Coffee table book, 'dr.a.g.', (for ‘dressed as girl') produced by actor Christopher Logan (Connie and Carla, Tron Legacy, Alcatraz) for bookthefilm and published worldwide by Tectum Publishers, showcases the art of drag at it's fiercest.
'dr.a.g.' has been tagged 'the most respectful book on drag ever produced' and clearly illustrates how men are able to transform themselves and find their feminine sides in the most fabulous way. The performers were captured by top fashion photographers Magnus Hastings, Kristopher Reynolds, Ann Brown, Mike Ruiz, Jose A Guzman Colon, Austin Young, and Peter Palladino. According to the book "Drag isn't what you wear or who you are, it's how you wear who you are." "Drag has become a diverse form of expression that challenges, entertains and educates by pushing boundaries, while embracing beauty, comedy and glamour," says author Christopher Logan. "The performers in this book are evidence of that diversity, captured by some of the top photographers working in the world today."
The book was put together to raise funds for independent film production, and celebrates the talent of performers including: Larry Edwards, Mr. Kenneth Blake, and Frank Marino of Divas Las Vegas; top celebrity impersonators Eddie Edwards (Barbra), Chad Michaels (Cher) and Jimmy James (Marilyn); cast from RuPaul's Drag Race Nina Flowers, Bebe Zahara Benet, Ongina, Shannel, Raja, Tammie Brown, Roxxxy Andrews, and Detox; drag icons Lady Bunny, Jackie Beat, Joey Arias, Miss Coco Peru and even actor Charles Busch, Miami socialite Elaine Lancaster, and Canadian icons Christopher Peterson and MADO.
Also included are: Belgium's Joan Julian, New York's Sherry Vine, Australia's Philmah Bocks, Vancouver's Jaylene Tyme, Alabama's Dixie Longate, Florida's Randy Roberts. Shequida from America's Got Talent, punk-glam singer Jeffree Star, San Diego's Disco Dollie and Glitz Glam, and Chicago make up guru Sal-e.
The book closes with the works of the legendary Jim Bailey on the last page. Jim has performed for the British Royal family, at Carnegie Hall, and has turned in over 70 television and film appearances, including a stunning turn on The Carol Burnett Show.
