Bear Weekend Returns to SF on Presidents Day Weekend

SAN FRANCISCO (01-18-12) -- Furry bears and scruffy cubs all over the world have declared "We are the 99 FURcent!" with a grassroots, "2.0" version of their annual gathering, which takes place in San Francisco over Presidents Day Weekend.

For twenty years the third weekend of February has been "bear weekend" in San Francisco, starting in 1992 with the first Bear Expo. Thanks to the hard work of the Bears of San Francisco, seventeen International Bear Rendezvous followed, which were a ton of fun and raised a lot of money for great causes, as well as brought in needed money to the local economy. Sadly, 2011 was the last IBR.

In it's absence, and with the understanding that the essence of any bear event is of course the people, SF Bear Weekend - a grassroots, web 2.0, social media driven event was born!

With no person or group in charge, the weekend was decentralized. Charities partnered with promoters and venues to create a growing list of bearvents, many of which will be familiar to past attendees of IBR. There is no host hotel, no shuttle bus, and no registration. Just bears, bellies, and beer!

Since this is a grassroots event, supporters of fur and fun are encouraged to invite their friends through the "SF Bear Weekend 2012" event page on facebook, where over 390 bears, cubs, otters, chasers and chubs have already indicated they'll be attending. You can get there through, where you'll also find an up-to-date schedule.
